Another Legendary Aviation Figure Dies - Bob HooverFrom: Dick ReynoldsDate: 10/26/2016 3:15:29 PM CommentsBut his legends live on. My first CAA/FAA assignment was Cheyenne CS/T in 1958. The Wyoming ANG had F-86Ls, which even with afterburner were thought to be somewhat under powered at the density altitudes experienced at Cheyenne and Casper so the pilots were a little leery of them. At summer camp in Casper - elevation 5344' and who knows what the density altitude was - Mr. Hoover, who at that time was employed by North American, picked a plane out of the line and on departure did a roll as the gear was coming up. So much for poor performance on take-off. | |
