Born 8/20/1931 in Chicago, IL Attended Hubbard Elementary School Attended Lindblom Technical High School - Graduated June 1949. Was the starting Right Halfback on the 1948 Lindblom Prep Bowl Championship Team - (Championship game between the Chicago Public School Champion and the Catholic Champion) Attended South Dakota State College on a football scholarship. Joined U.S.A.F in November 1951. Basic Training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX Selected for Control Tower School at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS. Selected for Approach Control School at Keesler AFB Married JoAnne R. Fox in AFB Chapel, March 17, 1952 (St. Patrick's Day). Assigned to Brookley AFB, Mobile. AL after Approach Control School. Rank A/2C. Reassigned to Greenham Commons AFB Control Tower, Newbury England, mid 1953. Rank A/1C. Wife, JoAnne, joined me at Newbury and we lived off base. Reassigned to East Kirkby AFB, East Kirkby, England. Returned to USA, November 1955 for discharge. Hired by the CAA in January 1956. Assigned to Chicago Midway Tower but there was a mix up and I was sent to Chicago Enroute Control. I requested a transfer to Chicago Midway Control Tower and it was finally approved in January 1957. Remained at Chicago Midway Control Tower until 1962. Was reassigned to Chicago O'Hare in 1962 and remained there until promoted to Tower Chief at Chicago Pal-Waukee Control Tower in May 1967. Reassigned, 1971, as Facility Chief at Springfield, IL Control Tower to set up new Radar Operations. Reassigned to the Great Lakes Regional Office, 1981, to prepare for a possible PATCO Strike. Served as Terminal Section Chief and headed the Strike Recovery Team for the Great Lakes Region during the strike by controllers. Re-certified as a controller at both O'Hare and at Pal-Waukee and pulled shifts until manpower needs improved. Promoted to Plans and Procedures Officer at Chicago O'Hare, 1982. Retired from the FAA in 1983. Hired by Martin Marietta as ATC Liaison, 1987. Promoted to Deputy Regional Manager, Great Lakes Region for Martin Marietta. Hired, 1989, by Systems Requirements and Services Associates (SRSA) as Training Site Manager for Chicago O'Hare Control Tower and Terminal Radar Approach Control. Retired, again in 1992. JoAnne and I have three sons. Each son is married and each has two children. Our grandchildren consist of five grandsons and one granddaughter. We spend most of our time traveling (Paris, France, England, Scotland, Wales, Venice, Italy) - Florida. We attend most all of the grandchildren's activities - Football, Baseball, Hockey, Basketball, Volleyball, Iceless Hockey. When not chasing after the grandkids we sail on Lake Michigan on a 30' Sailboat. Most co-workers know me as "Yosh" (with a long "o"), or as "YS." | |
