I joined CAA on Feb 6, 1947 having left the military (I was one that served in THREE branches, more or less) and a year with Hawaiian Airlines as a radio operator. I was assigned to the Puunene, Maui, HI INSAC (now known as FSS). When the airport moved to Kahului; I went along in the Maui CS/T approach control. In 1962 I moved to California where I bounced around until retiring from Lindbergh Tower Dec 31, 1982. I became a supervisor in 1967 when at Ontario CS/T. After retiring I taught in the aviation programs at Mesa College and Southwestern College. There are a lot of controllers out there that went through my classes! I have always spent a lot of time in community service. In fact, I was named Young Man of the Year for Maui County in 1955. I have curtailed some of this activity today, but still give guided tours at the Old Globe Theater and serve on their Speakers group. Head the Cultural Events Committee at First United Methodist Church. Serve on the board of the South Bay Guild of the San Diego Opera. I am publicity chairman and a former officer of NARFE Chapter 940. Probably my greatest claim to fame in the volunteer area was the ten years I served on the County Noise Board, including two terms at Chairman, one of which included the drafting and signing of the current noise waiver for Lindbergh Field. Married, four children, two grandchildren. | |
