Joined the Navy in Dec 1950 and upon completion of boot camp and radio school reported for duty on the destroyer USS McDermut. Served on the McDermut as radio operator and leading radioman, making three trips to Korea to operate in TF77 during the Korean War. Discharged from the Navy in July 1954. Hired into the CAA in November 1954 and reported to Daggett Calif FSS. Upon completion of training at DAG was transferred to Hanksville Utah FSS since they were staffing critical and I was a qualified CW operator which was required at HVE. I did not bid on the job, but that was in the days of yore when you went where you were needed.

After 22 months at HVE was selected for Los Angeles ARTCC where I reported in March 1957. Worked in ZLA as controller, training instructor, team supervisor, assistant operations officer and assistant chief until selected as a specialist in the Operations Branch in 1972. After two years in the Operations Branch, was selected as Deputy Chief, Oakland ARTCC. After 11 months as Deputy, I was promoted to Chief Oakland ARTCC in which capacity I served until selection for Manager, Airspace and Procedures Branch Western Region in 1979. In very early 1981 moved to the Operations Branch where I had the dubious privilege of running the command center during the controllers strike.

Through 1983-1985 served in an acting capacity as Division Manger and Assistant Division Manager, Air Traffic until retirement in August l985 in conjunction with a reorganization and job abolishment. Since retirement have been involved in thoroughbred horse racing and breeding. Now living in Yelm, Washington with wife of 48 years, Jackie. As regards my FAA career, I could never say which position or location I preferred since I have had the great good fortune to work for, with, and supervise some of the finest people in the world and thank God remain extremely close to many of them.....
